Land of Unequal Opportunity

Our country is divided.

We pride ourselves in being a “melting pot” of people and offering equality to all who live within our borders. People travel to our country specifically to have the opportunities that were withheld from them in their own countries.

But we are liars.

We allow the differences between us to determine how we treat each other. We have this sick notion that somehow some of us are better than others simply because of the way we look.

To make it worse, this treatment is justified by claiming that it’s God’s will or for the “greater good.”

This makes me sick.

The anger I feel when people are treated unfairly because of something that is beyond their control is deep and overwhelming. There is nothing in this world that will EVER justify the poor treatment of someone else and for people in this country to think that there is shows a level of ignorance I will never understand.

NEWS FLASH: Jesus wasn’t black OR white.

Read that again, because I don’t think enough people actually understand this.

Jesus – God’s Son – was a middle eastern man of Jewish decent. What does that mean? He had brown skin, dark hair and eyes, and didn’t speak English.

Like most of the people who face discrimination in this “country of equal opportunity.”

If you call yourself a Christian, the God you serve is not white. He never alludes to a specific race being the better race. Ever.

You know who His CHOSEN people were? Israel.

You know their ethnicity? Not white. Not black.

So before you try to justify your treatment of someone in the name of doing God’s will, I suggest you read your bible and see what His will actually is. It looks a little like this:

“But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?” 1 John 3:17

If you see someone in need – no matter who it is – and you choose to turn away from them, then God’s love doesn’t live in you. Because God’s love moves us towards people who are different from us. It provides a bridge between those who have nothing in common.

That is God’s will – anything apart from that is blasphemy and from the Devil himself.
